While Galway Community Café opened its doors to the public in December 2020 unfortunately, we had to delay the official opening of the cafe due to Covid-19 restrictions. Finally, on the 11th of August, the Galway Community Café and all of our supporters celebrated our official opening.
We were delighted to be joined by Mary Butler T.D. Minister for Mental Health and Older People, and Anne Rabbitte T.D. Minister for Disabilities. Together with our colleagues and supporters of the cafe pilot project; including Catherine Brogan – Deputy CEO of Mental Health Ireland, Charlie Meehan – Head of Service Mental Health HSE Community Healthcare West, Dr. Amanda Burke – Executive Clinical Director of Mental Health HSE Community Healthcare West, Niall O’Tuathail member of the Galway Community Café steering committee, Thom Stewart – An Áit Eile and Chairperson for Galway Local Forum for Mental Health, Louie Maguire – Member of the Galway Local Forum for Mental Health, and Kevin Nugent – Owner of Mr. Waffle.
Notably absent due to annual leave was Maria McGoldrick Area Lead for Mental Health Engagement HSE, and interim SRF lead.
